St Margaret’s of Antioch, Hinton Waldrist
There was a church on this site in ancient times, but the present building dates from 1250. The south transept was added in 1290, and the nave was widened a few years later. The church has stood more or less as you see it today for almost exactly 700 years.
There are 6 bells in the church tower, 3 of them dating from 1709. They are rung every week on Thursday evenings starting at 7:30 pm by a team from the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
St Margaret’s is part of the Benefice of Cherbury with Gainfield, a group of seven churches in the villages of Buckland, Charney Bassett, Hinton, Littleworth, Longworth and Lyford. The Rector of the Benefice is The Revd Talisker Tracey-MacLeod, who lives in Longworth.
